Maintaining existing prices
You will be aware that the costs of raw materials and utilities have risen sharply over the last twelve months. However, I have decided to hold our 2007 prices.
To offset our extra costs, we have been working hard and thinking creatively in order to make savings in our equipment and in the way we work. For instance, we have changed to low-energy light bulbs, and we’ve replaced our old gas boiler with a new energy-efficient model.
I am delighted that these savings are significant enough to allow us to maintain our prices - I’m always reluctant to pass on to our customers the extra costs that we incur as a business.
Also, VAT has been increased on alcohol. However, we will not be passing on this added cost. Our drinks are, therefore, very good value, and in most cases charged at below pub prices.
We are always seeking ways of cutting costs and keeping our restaurant prices down. One decision we made was to not to use outside contractors for our laundry any more – you’d be amazed how much linen we get through in a week and the cost of having it cleaned! We’ve invested in our own low-energy laundry system, which is already beginning to save us money.
